Chevy build - a few questions?

Hi there, I need some answers for my Chevy project. I a want to build a 350/383 stroker for street use. Im aiming for about 430< (460) HP. Ive come a long way ito research and want to tie things up. Im on a budget so im trying to take out as much machining as I can - ie spend my $$ as smartly as possible. I have concluded that as a start getting a '96 vortec engine already had a roller lifter setup. Ive come down to vortec 906 casting heads machined for more cam lift. Im considering getting a stroker kit with rods, crank etc. Im wondering what heads come on the vortec motor anyway - maybe vortecs? A 600/650 cfm carb should be more than enough for street use? Any more than that and surely id be wasting fuel -

I might decide to beef up the 350 for the moment and save the stroker hassle. Im still tossing between oil pans, grinding the crank, rod to cam clearance issues, rod length, etc. either way - could u recommend a good intake (for vortecs) and cam for street use? I dont mind a slightly lumpy idle - this isnt a daily driver, more of a toy to take out now and then and smoke some rubber - Im not interested in top end as i dont see myself racing around at who knows what speed - id prefer to burn quickly through the lower/mid rpms (albeit a good diff ratio will help here). Im installing a 6spd manual because i dont want the drive train power loss from an auto and i prefer shift control instead of fiddling with sensors/stall figures, etc. I still feel like im going in a small circle concerning choices, but Ive recently learned that buying a newer motor with a stroker kit can cost as much or even less than haggling with machining etc, and could deliver more power - your thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

This is my fisrt chevy build and Ive spent the last 6 months reading intensively and my project board has been wiped clean a few times! I really dont mind going old school (block wise @ least) - and i do look fwd to getting my hands dirty, but I dont want to get caught up in a tiresome (and costly) exercise back and forth between machinists for my stroker. . One trip or 2 wd be fine as needed - but there are so many options out there Im finding it hard to be sure of any given 383 street combo with 430+ HP -

thanks again - i look fwd to hearing from you guys :)

oh - id be shipping it all to south africa so no backup junkyards round the corner etc etc :) which is why id want to get my parts/ground work REALLY sorted before clicking buy now!
