chevy 305 oil problem?

My bro has an 84 chevy silverado and we just put all new gaskets on his 305 and we started it and was going to adjust the lifters and when we started it, it started shooting out oil out of the rocker arm where the pushrod goes, u know how it circulates oil, well it is shooting like a 2ft stream, what does this mean, i know oil is going to go all over being the valve covers are off, but it is like squirting out like 2ft
