chevrolet malibu 2002 replacing headlight bulb?

I am going soon to an auto parts store to buy a replacement bulb for my car. However, I am not exactly sure what to get. The car has 3 "bulbs" a yellow parking bulb, a white high beams, and a metallic type lamp with kind of a - - - appearance for low beams. This metallic lamp is the one that burnt out. I have not seen this part separately available for sale in online parts stores. Is this a part that on this Malibu can be changed independent of the headlight assembly? How easy is to replace this and how do you remove the headlight assembly on this car?

I have the standard light bulbs factory OEM.
This lamp is the low beam light, the other two are glass bulbs, this seems to be a metal of some kind, gray metal color with no glass on it.
that's what I did the lowbeam's out.
I will look into it tomorrow, got a shuck's in my city(alaska).

ok, one is the low beam and one is the high beam.

By metallic your talking about a painted on metallic color at the tip of the light correct?

First- turn on the headlights look at them from outside, or shine them on your garage or fence. Do it first on lowbeam, are any lights out? if not turn on your hibeams and then see if one is out.

One other thing the metallic thing could be is just like a reflector, that centers over the bulb causing the light to reflect back to the silver backing in the housing and shine out again..If thats what it is, you DO NOT need to replace that, just get the bulb, the reflector will stay in.

as far as removing the light, there "should" be 2 bolts on the top of the headlight enclosure, remove them, then there may be one other long bolt running down behind the light, loosen that one just enough to remove the headlight enclosure

not sure what stores are in your area, but here is a link. any auto parts store will be able to look up the exact part number you need if you tell them the year/make/model car you have and which (hi or low) beam light you need.

ps if you got the extra cash, you may as well replace the other side also..especially if its the lowbeam
