Ok.. I own a malibu 2002. I have had some problems with the car not starting so I decided to do a few things about it. Changed plugs and plug wires, had the winterization on car checked and had a fuel pressure test done when the car is started cold. All tests checked out to be normal. Fuel pump works, spark I have plenty of.. etc.
I do however have a fault in the AC system. Because I live in Alaska, if I don't necessarily have to fix the AC system(which may be very expensive in a FWD car) I would like not to fix it.
The fault is at yet undiagnosed, but every time that the 10AMP fuse for the AC compressor is put into its slot on the fuse box it burns out and it turns off my fuel gauge, engine temp gauge, and all dash background lights.
I was also told that on my car, the passlock II system is on a similar/interlinked circuit with the AC. In addition to this I was told that even with the AC"out of the system" by leaving the fuse not plugged in if I turn on the rear defroster, this turns on the AC compressor. With me not having a fuse in there and something wrong in the AC system this may cause an electrical overload and, this may trigger the car not to start. Basically every now and then when i try to start the car it turns over, but a few seconds later the fuel gauge drops to E and the empty light turns on. This is similar (I think) to a passlock II system engaging as you don't have any fuel if the antitheft is engaged.
Do you think the cause of my problem might be what this mechanic described? Can It be something else?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
