Does it seem normal to anyone that a 71 year old woman with no existing lung problems experiences abdominal pain so severe that she calls an ambulance, then upon arriving at the hospital is told she has diverticulitis (which she already knew and was on anti-biotics for), then told she actually has appendicitis, but they can't operate to remove it because she apparently has pneumonia.
She had no symptoms whatsoever at that point. She wasn't breathless, had no cough and had felt fine until her stomach went weird.
They kept her in hospital, with no food, kept pushing the appendectomy back cause of the pneumonia, and eventually she did feel quite breathless and not very well. (this was 3 days after she was admitted)
She felt better a few days after that, and by the 5th day was feeling like her old self again. But still they wouldn't operate, and apparently one doctor wanted to take the appendix out but the other wanted to wait for the pneumonia to completely go away (I guess cause of her age combined with the general anaesthetic).
So now it's been 9 days since she was first admitted...and she's STILL in hospital, but they don't seem to be doing anything! She just lies there, bored out of her brain! They have done a chest X-ray, then a CAT scan, and although the CAT scan revealed nothing, the X-ray showed a "lump" right near the top of her lung (the same lung the pneumonia is in), so they had her flown down to this other hospital about an hour away for some test where they put a camera down into her lung to see what it is. Apparently this was clear so now they're flying her back to the original hospital again, but she still has no news of when she can finally go home.
Also, now they're saying they don't want to remove the appendix at all anymore.
Is this normal!?!?! She missed a 3 week long vacation for this. Ugh.
