Chest Pain. Helppp?!

Hi. I'm an 18, almost 19 year old female with chest pains since the beginning of November. Chest xray and ct scan along with mono test some blood work and spleen sonogram all normal, however recently my blood test for my ANA level came back high so more blood tests. Lupus runs in my
family but I do not have the sore joints and such. The main thing is my chest. it started as a sharp pain in the lower left side of my chest/rib area that would spread to the side, as well as a pressure/tightness feeling in the middle of my chest. My doc said it was costochronditis but it is still bothering me. It did go away a tad at one point but it has really been bothering me lately. I just tried vicks vaporub but it made my chest feel like it was burning so I wiped it off. When I lay down I can't breath deep, it feels like I am hitting a wall when I breathe out and I will get pain in the upper left of my chest. It is pretty tender and this is starting to worry me. I know I am young and active (I play ice hockey) so it most likely isn't my heart so maybe lungs? Any advice would be great!

I was just diagnosed with this also a few weeks ago. You just described my symptoms exactly. The pain was bad when I breathed in deep or bent over and would shoot up to my collar bone. I ended up in the ER with 3 other people for the exact same thing! The doc asked if I had been shoveling, I had, and it also came on when the weather got bitter cold, but for 3 people to have the same thing the same night told me it had alot to do with the weather and people shoveling. You are to put heat packs on it, or lay down in the tub for about 20 min. or longer, take ibuprofen, and take it very easy and do nothing strenuous to aggravate it. It can take months to go away, but mine started getting better with laying in the tub, this relaxes the muscles around the rib cage. I still get little twinges here and there, but not near as bad as before. Don't do anything strenuous, it seems to have come on with people shoveling here, and the cold weather combination. So if you can figure out what you may have done before it started, that may help you avoid aggravating it for awhile. Good luck and take it easy on yourself and do the hot packs and ibuprofen.

thank you for the help! it's good to know I'm not alone. although I wasn't doing any shoveling I was playing ice hockey. I did take ibuprofen but it had no
effect.

The laying in the tub helped me immensely. I laid in there for as long as I could with only my head out! It relaxes those muscles. It is the combination of both treatments that are supposed to help you. But your playing hockey I am sure is what brought it on. You were using your upper body muscles, and the muscles in your chest.
