Chest infection medication?

Hello, I don't usually post on this board but I have always had asthma which is usually well controlled with Seritide & the odd puff of Ventolin when required. Earlier this week I caught a cold which rapidly went to my chest & the asthma got really bad.

My Dr diagnosed Bronchitis & put me on antibiotics & prednisolone. I have had prednisolone before but usually about 10 mg a day. This time my Dr has prescribed 50 mg a day for the 1st 3 days & then tapering doses! This seems a really high dose to me! Has anyone else had this sort of dose before in similar circumstances?- admittedly it is only for the short term & I'll go back in another week for a further check up. Thanks for reading & for any information you might have! ;)

50 Mg is a little higher than normal starting dosage for a prednisone taper but it's not crazy high, and it's pretty common to start on a high dose for a few days when you've got an infection because the inflammation is much more pronounced.

50 to 80 mg for 5 days is my normal for achest infection..with no tapering if it's 50 mg...........and sometimes it actually works:P
