Can someone please remind me how to combine elements? An example would be Na2O2 which is Sodium (Na) and Oxygen (O) forming Sodium Oxide. Now if you were to break that apart, would it be Na2, O2? Or if combing two potentially made up elements, Mn3L4 and say No2L3 would the product be Mn3No2L7? Or am I doing this completely wrong? Sorry if this is way too confusing.

synthesis or composition:

4Na+O2---> 2Na2O

decomposition:

2Na2O--->4 Na + O2

In your fake example you list 2 L's. If both had L, they would not combine.

4Fe+ 3O2--->2 Fe2O3, formation of rust, iron oxide

CO2+ H2O---> H2CO3, carbonic acid synthesis

H2CO3---> CO2+ H2O, decomposition of carbonic acid
