A venturesome chemist tries to prepare a buffer solution from a strong acid and its conjugate base. He takes HCl and NaCl off the shelf and prepares a solution of 1M in HCl and 1M in Cl. (a) what is the pH of this solution? (b) what is the new pH of this solution after 0.50 mole HCl/L has been added to it? Is the pH change reasonable for the buffer solution? (c) Is the Cl ion doing any good? Coud NaCl be omitted? (d) In the light of your answer to b and c, would you call this solution a buffer solution?

thank you.
