When Chlorine atoms for a molecule of Chlorine Gas, it becomes - Cl'2' (chlorine subscript 2). This is because it is a halogen and it does covalent bonding. However, why is it that when a molecule of Oxygen is formed it is also - O'2' (Oxygen subscript 2) even though oxygen it a group 6?
