CHEMISTRY HELP NEEDED :(?

If someone could please explain how to get the answer for this problem...it would definitely help A LOT!!! :)


write the electron configuration for the following atoms and for the simple ion the the element most commonly forms. In each case, indicate which noble gas has the same electron configuration as the ion.

Sodium, Z=11

Calcium, Z=20
 
sodium forms Na+, so it loses an electron(it is in the first column), so it takes on Neon, 1s2 2s2 2p6

Calcium forms Ca2+(it is in the 2nd column) so it loses 2 e- and takes on Argon(18), so its config. is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6
