Definitely NITROMOORS.
Don't get it on your skin though, it burns.
What you need:
A paint scraper, triangular is best.
Put the Nitromoors on it with a big brush that you can throw away afterwards.
Leave it on about 10 minutes, just be liberal with application, so it doesn't dry out too much. also, it's a good idea if you can do it outside in the open.
Once you've scraped the paint off, rub it down with an old tea-towel and don't attempt to sand it or rub it down with wire-wool etc; for at least 3 days.
Some people have old furniture, dipped in caustic soda/acid tanks. Not a good idea, unless it is pine? Even then it can be detrimental. Hand-scraping is always the best result. If it is Oak or Mahogany, it totally ruins it and causes warping.
After you've done the work on it, try BRIWAX, or varnish.
Hope this helps. Nice that you are re-vamping something old!
