check engine light comes ford exp?

The dreaded check engine light went on today in my truck and has stayed on even after turning on and off the truck 2 or three times. It goes off when i shut truck off and it goes on and stays on when driving.
Is it crucial i have it checked?. I did this once before on another vehicle and they found nothing. 50.00 dollars out too. I have had a lot of maintenance on the truck o rings replaced tuned up new belt tires transmisson and radiator fluids replaced and truck runs real nicely. Will the sensor light go away eventually?. I should check the oil though but i doubt it is that. Doesnt eat much oil and it has been only 3000 miles since last oil change Any suggestions? Mechanics only. it is a 2001 ford exp sport trac
 
its probably just your sensor gone bad which is common in fords if everthing checks out right then its just the sensor so dont worry anout it cuz it wony go away but you can take it to the shop and some kind of way they make goes off but still change your oil and filter and check your air filter
 
impossible to know without knowing what code it is. If car is running good with no problems, could simply be a problem with evap system. Go to autozone or something and they will pull the code for free and can kindof point you in the right direction.
