Hey, so I have a 1999 Chrysler 300m. Its my first car. Its been in a reck, but we got it all fixed up. Today when I was leaving town, my check engine light came on. Whats that mean? I dont want to tell my mom cause tomo im suppose to drive up to the city with my friends. (hour each way)

Would it be bad for me to continue to drive it for awhile with the light on?
Its not flashing. I think it might of happened cause i turned the car off in drive. Would that do it? Is that bad?

The check engine lite is a warning that the emission system has a problem. I would not be too concerned but you need to find out the problem as soon as possible. Go ahead with your trip.

Depends, could b sumtn big or not, I drove out of city twice (1 hour away each way), n then drove to the beach n bak (2 hour drive), ive been drivin like dat since i got the car it's been about 3 months, no biggie just get it checked out and if it's something major u shuld get it fixed but if its not i wouldnt really worri about it.

it may not be anything. Go to Autozone and have the codes pulled they can tell you waht needs to be done

If the light is on solid take your drive. If the CEL is blinking you don't want to drive it. Hows it running? As far as taking it to Auto-Zone Don't bother they can read the codes, but that just a starting point for diagnostics. If I could diagnose cars by just reading the codes I'd be a freakin billionaire by now. Good luck

a check engine light means that the car computer recieves a bad code for one of the lots of sensors that your 300M has. i suggest that you go to autozone and ask for a diagnose is free of charge get the codes and ask about them in autozone, i think it may be the O2 sensor maybe i got the light on a Nissan Pathfinder while i was driving it and it was that, but it can be anything

Only way to know what turned on the CEL is to check codes in computer. I've always had good luck getting Autozone to check code for free when they aren't busy. It could be something extremely unimportant or something worse. If it's something really bad the light will be flashing to indicate that that you shouldn't drive the vehicle.
