I had an old Kyocera 6035 (basically a Palm III) for years and it did all I needed it to do; make less than 10 phone calls a month at .25/minute and be my PDA organizer... syncable to my Mac.
Email and websurfing would be nice, but *not* at all a requirement (and I'm pretty sure that would bump me to a whole new monthly cost level).
Unfortunately I lost it.. and when I bought a replacement on eBay for $15 I was told it was so old that it was incompatible with my provider's network (I guess my old phone was grandfathered in).
All the smartphones I see cost hundreds of dollars and require hefty monthly calling plans... no company seems to offer cheap prepaid calling *and* sell any inexpensive smartphones to use with that service.
I'm in a smallish city (200,000 metro area) in Virginia, so there may be a shortage of providers relative to a bigger city.
Any suggestions? It seems like it should be possible to buy a used unlocked Treo or something that can sync to a Mac and sign up for a prepaid service with that, but its' being hard to find.
thanks!
