I am a real newbie when it comes to cell phones, I basically have never owned one, however I was recently on a trip in Dubai and decided to splurge and get a nokia 95 - 8gb, mainly for travelling and taking photos. Now I am back home, living in the USA, and am thinking about activating my phone. It has no SIM card or anything, and I plan on using it mainly for emergency/safety situations. I would also like to use it to access the web.
It seems like when I try to contact popular carriers they offer plans that make you have to use their phones, so my primary question is how do I get service without having to use the carriers phone? My second question is, does anyone know of a carrier who only offers internet (3g) access?
If so I could maybe pay less and then use a skype account of something to make calls through the internet for free. My guess is that internet access is one of the things that makes phone services so expensive, so I am doubtful there's a good answer to this
but I thought I throw it there since I really don't know much about the cell phone world. Hard to believe I still don't have one, I know!
any help or pointers welcome,
thank you!
