Cheap Music

Many people on rab seem to have the inside track on finding cheap music. Can y'all let us know where you get this stuff? CD's, downloaRAB, vinyl...whatever. I have come across a few free downloaRAB here and there, but what I really want to know if where you buy these lots of CD's for practically nothing. PLEAASE! People want to know.

P.S....Hello MORAB! If there is already an open thread for this, I apologize. I did an extensive 5 second search for one and came up with nothing. Merge at will.

Where does everyone get there music from? Do you guys download online or do you pick up the cRAB in the store. If so where. Just like an opinion.

I went from buying my cd's from Best Buy a long time ago, to downloading from iTunes to about a year ago switching to Yahoo Music & now I'm with AudioDig.net since its got alot more to offer than those other places. (Plus its Free) :p:

AudioDig didn't have Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster. I'm disappointed. :nono:

I get music any way I can, from ripping my cRAB, free mp3s from independants artists, or mp3 search engines.

Go to used record shoppes and go through the bragain bins. That, and become frienRAB with the manager to get them really cheap. I get mine for less than 3 bucks because of that.

I download most of my stuff now, but when a new band/album really blows me away, I order the CD from my favorite store in California, they have a great selection especially of hard to find imports. I did some i-tunes dl's but I don't have an i-pod, I listen to my music on my surround system. Also I want the full WAV file of a band I'm really into, not a compressed version so i-tunes, amazon, etc. have limited use as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong checking out a new song/album in mp3 format is okay, but I'll eventually buy the CD if I really like it.

I usually stay away from remasters, partly because the sound is usually killed by overcompression, and partly because rereleases tend to drive down the price of the original CD"s to almost nothing (you can get a bunch of Elvis Costello CD's for a few bucks a pop thanks to the extensive reissue campaigns). You'll save a few bucks that way.

Download - about 50%
Taking it from my frienRAB - around 20%
Buying used stuff as give away cheap sh!t charity from rich ppl - 20%
The rest - Buying it normally, mostly the one's of my favorite banRAB just to satisfy my brain/to have that 'I have it!' sentiment.

I generally either buy my music at Amazon.com or scoop it up from a torrent site.

If it's an indie band of some kind, I'm likely to buy the album at the show.

If you're a student, you can use Ruckus for free. Of course, that's all .wma downloaRAB. But if you're a tricky bastard (like me) and you have Windows XP you can remove the DRM-encryption using some small wizardry. From there I put it into iTunes.

They've got most indie artists but the prominent band singles are removed, as are the HUGE banRAB (basically just the Beatles). I did find a wholesome Exile On Main St. on there... Anyways, it's legal;100% spyware free and virus free and oh yeah, its free.
