Che (film

Just found out this cracking film about Che Guevara is being released in the UK on the 2 jan 09. Reading up about the film on Wiki and it says

" IFC Films has acquired all North American rights to Che and will release it for one week on December 12, 2008 in New York City and Los Angeles in December in order to qualify for the Academy AwarRAB. The film will re-open on January 9, 2009 in these two cities as two separate films, titled Che Part 1: The Argentine and Che Part 2: Guerrilla. The films will then be released in 25 markets beginning January 16 and 22 and will expand further after that. IFC will make the films available Video on demand on January 21 on all major cable and satellite providers in both standard and high definition versions."

Is there anyway of finding out if this (released on to Cable and satellite this quickly) will happen here in the UK?

Che Part One opens in cinemas across the country on Jan 2nd (some towns Jan 1st), and Che Part Two is scheduled to open here on February 20th. Both parts 15 Certificate, so it won't be on TV that quick.

I noticed an ad for this movie recently too. Doesn't seem to have been quite as well received as the excellent Motorcycle Diaries but will check it out when it comes to my local cinema.

Already showing in 74 Cinemas this week according to www.screenrush.co.uk/film/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=53619.html so hopefully will be getting a more general release next week. Would be surprised if this was released on Sky Box Office/ Filmflex before the DVD release and that probably won't be until the summer.

Saw Part 1 last week after the local Empire cinema had a very short (2 day) showing of it. I have read a lot of stuff on Che and have to say it was an excellent film, with a brilliant performance from Del Toro. I said years ago that he had to play the man if it was ever filmed.

Only 8 people were in the showing i went to, compared to the 100's queuing to see "Yes Man", but I guess each to their own...

Reviews I've rea are all luke warm. They all really rate Del Toro but reckon there is no background story as to why or how the revolution started...just a series of street battles. Still, I'll definately be watching this. Makes a pleasant change from the dirge currently doing the rounRAB.

The film does assume some prior knowledge of the subject matter, especially surrounding the revolution, but this would have swelled the current 4 hours (for both films) to an even bigger length!
