A charter plane apparently carrying 11 people went down in western Alaska Friday night, and searchers were trying to help the survivors.
The plane had taken off from Bethel, Alaska, about 400 miles west of Anchorage, and went down near St. Mary’s, about 110 miles north of Bethel, shortly after 6:30 p.m. local time.
Jim Hickerson, the president of Hageland Aviation, told KTVA television that his company owned the plane, a Cessna 208, and that it was carrying 10 people. Alaska state troopers were at the site of the downed plane.
“We have found a crash site and are working on identifying what needs to be done with the passengers that are there,” Megan Peters, a spokeswoman for the troopers, told The Associated Press. “There are survivors and we are working our best to get them help.”
