The car cranked fine and drove it about 15 miles when gauges stopped working and wipers would come on automatically. The car stuttered and died while driving it and managed to coast into a mechanic where they found a dead battery and found the altenator in need of replacing. We had the altenator rebuilt by a certified altenator mechanic. That lasted for a little over a year and once again, the problems came back. The altenator never charges the battery and after recharging the battery to fully charged and had the altenator rebuilt with new parts along with purchasing a new battery, the problems are back.
After installing the rebuilt altenator on the car with a fully charged battery, I took it for a test run to Wal-mart to test the starting and shutting off part. It done great to Wal-mart with no issues (about 4 miles), cranked back up fine and shut off fine when stopping for gas in the same parking lot. I then cranked it back up with no issues and once I pulled out of the parking lot, the car died and I managed to coast into a parking lot less than 1/4 of a mile from the gas station.
We checked all of the fuses inside the car as well as under the hood, which checked out to be fine and then jumped it off and allowed enough time to charge the battery back up to drive a short distance just to make it back home.
We don't understand what is going on with this and if there is something else that it could be, such as in the wiring from the battery to the altenator or if it trully is still the altenator that we just rebuilt today with new parts.
Has anyone had this issue with this car and if so, what was your problem?
Please help me fix my car!!! Thanks!!!
