character surroundings for my book?

I am doing a new book as a few people know and I have run out of inspiration, Since 6 days ago I have been relying on the community to help me. Things such as character names and places have been resolved but I am not sure how the surroundings should be. I need personal opinions here, Snow, Rain, Dark, Light, Scary.......things like this to set the mood for a zombie novel, 5 stars for best answer just like every other time
