Hi all.I have 2 4700 receivers. Both are hooked up to a large 30in dish.I recently upgraded my channel packages.2 or 3 channels have some problems. They are animal planet, sun tv,tlc. Sun tv is the worst almost unwatchable. The picture will pixalate then freeze.Sound continues then ic catches up and resumes.Sun tv was like this even before the channel upgrade. The other mentioned channels do the same but not as bad.I checked signal strength on those transponders and it seems fine,85-92%. Checked my connections also. This happens on both receivers.Could the lnb be faulty?, or are the receivers just getting too old? Anyone know..

I would start by doing a full re-boot of the receivers by holding in the power button for 10 seconds.

It might also be worth ensuring they have the latest version of software on them.

Don't waste your time with trying resets or checking connections. You're right, the receivers are simply too old. See http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=112886&highlight=4700 While there's no official reason for this, my suspicion is that it has to do with the N3 encryption upgrade at the last card swap, and the increased memory requirements of N3 that the older receivers like the 4700 doesn't have.

In my case, I couldn't watch NFL Network or PBS-West. I never watched Sun and I didn't subscribe to TLC or Animal Planet so I can't say if this issue affects the same channels on all 4700 receivers. But switching dish feeds between the 4700 and a 3100 didn't help.

If I were you, I would call retentions and ask for some new hardware at discount prices because your service is really unusable in it's present state. Of course, if you need the UHF remote functionality, that makes it complex since the 4100 receiver doesn't have that. There is a UHF remote kit available that I've heard Bell will provide upon request but at least one has had to wait a while to get it. Remember that Shaw Direct's receivers all have UHF remotes so you can use that fact to your bargaining advantage should you threaten to cancel.

I see 4700's every other day, still working just fine. Even come across the odd 1000 or 4500 as well.

Thanks for the replies. My receiver downstairs works much better on the affected channels. So I will swap receivers, we tend to watch most tv upstairs, than in the basement.I have my eye out for some good used newer models .If that fails the I'll just visit bellworld .

Look for the 6131 on sale over the holidays. They often go on for $150, sometimes cheaper.

don't know if i am on the right thread, but i have some channels that do not work at all. and I didn't not want to created a new thread.

The channels toon retro (599), History channel (522), and also HLN (508).

when i click select to watch these channels they all said:

ERROR
your satellite signal is temporarily unavailable. Please wait or press up and down arrow button to change channels.

Channel: 599
Satellite: 91
Transponder: 29

and for the other channels is different transponder. and i have no snow on my satellite, because at first, I thought it was that. Than I check all my other receiver and shows the same thing.

Does any of you have the same problem? because it has been two days for me without these channels. any help will be appreciated. thanks.

I just checked the 3 channels you mentioned and I have no reception problems.

Could be your dish alignment or a cabling issue.

I'd start with the basics though, do a hard reset (push and hold the front panel power button until it resets - about 10 seconds) then run "check switch" again.

i have a 5900. is it normal that the hard drive spin for about ten minutes before showing my channels guide than turn off by itself, than says attention, please stand by for satellite signal. than said transpondor 30. 1 to 5....

because it does that almost everyday!!!

That is NOT normal at all.

Try unplugging for a couple of minutes then let it go through all the hoops to reset itself.

Running a "Check Switch" after all that might also be a good idea.

yesterday i check my switch it said everything is alright. so now don't know what to do no more.... also, did a hard reboot like the technician told me so when i move to my new place. i mark it down on a piece of papar.

Could somebody tell me why when I turn my receiver on the volume on the channel I am watching is not as loud as when I am just watching Antenna TV.
Also why are some channel louder than others. I am continuously adjusting the volume whenever I change the channel.

Welcome to the Bell TV Volume Hell......lol

This is generally caused be Bell not adjusting the volume levels at the uplink station in Toronto. I have complained about this for years, it drives us nuts in this household, volumes go UP during Commercials and on HD Channels.

Hopefully, Bell will invest in a new automatic system to handle this in 2010 but do not hold your breathe.
