Changing Verizon Phones

As you can see, this is my first post. I searched for the answer to my question, but I didn't really find what I was looking for. I have my ex-wife's phone (I lifted it from her while we were going through the divorce as payback for the nice key-job she did on the side of my new Jeep...yeah) and I was curious to know if there was a way I could put my number on this phone without raising a red flag in Verizon's system. I had the cheap phone and she had the nice one and it would be nice to use her phone. Not like I didn't pay for it, anyway. The phones were in her name, and I'm pretty sure she reported it as stolen. Thank you very much for your time and understanding for me being green in this venue. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Well, if she reported it stolen, then it's considered stolen.

Wireless carriers won't activate a stolen phone...this is known as their Blacklist. Verizon Wireless doesn't use SIM Cards, so it isn't like popping in a new card and you're good to go. Even SIM Card phones have issues being able to accept a SIM when they're reported stolen.

If it's stolen, the automated phone system to activate the phone will tell you to call and speak with customer service. The online system will say the same thing. Customer Service will verify through tech support that it has been reported stolen. Then if your ex gave them your cell phone number as a possible "thief" it may result in Verizon Wireless terminating your service with penalty.

Thank you for the answer. I kind of figured that this would be the case. It's been about a year and a half since all of this went down. She would not have reported me as being the one who took it from her, even though she knew I did. I knew enough on her to put her crazy butt in jail...besides, around the same time she got arrested for obstruction of justice and is currently on probation.

Thanks again for the answer.

You mean, CDMA carriers. American GSM carriers do not blacklist phones, nor do they activate them. With GSM, only the SIM card is activate. If you lost a GSM phone or it's stolen, someone can just pop in a SIM and go.
