Changing Plans/Maintaining My Number

I'm in what might be considered an odd situation and all help is appreciated. My mom has been covering my phone while I've been in college and she's decided that its time I be cut loose. I have the phone as part of Family Talk plan and I want to cut myself out of that and switch to one of the monthly GoPhone plans. I also want to keep my phone number. Is this an option if I were to just buy a SIM on eBay? I not sure how to describe the situation better, but I'll clarify if asked about specifics. Many thanks -GP
 
Go to an AT&T corporate store. It should not require a SIM card change. Make sure that your line is not still under contract on the FamilyTalk plan from your mother.
