Changing phones

I read most of the thread about leaving Nokia for Android. Those reasons would not be mine. I like the phone (C6) it does what I want, and does it well.
What is bugging me and will make me change is the SOFTWARE1!!1
Ovi suite is the most invasive and stupid piece of software for a phone that I have ever seen. Anyone else feel the same and have a workaround?
And while phones are the main thing of this forum - do we have any threads for the software?

Ovi Suite 3 work very well on my Win7, it is much better than older versions. I don`t use it a lot, with Windows 7 there is very little need for it unless you need to sync messages.

Do you have a specific question or complaint that maybe other users could address? In what sense do you find Ovi Suite invasive and what would you like to work around, exactly?

It's a bit clunky in some senses, and slow to sync to the phone I think, but not too bad.

The minute you open the thing up - it wants to sync everything its way. You have to open it before you can even get to preferences. I don't do music its way. I get mp3s from elsewhere and shove them on the card. Same with photos. I can get them off the card and into Photoshop! I don't use ovi chat, would love to get rid of maps, Ovi store, etc.

I turned the phone into a pda that will run my Palm apps. I don't do social media on the phone. Nor movies. I don't like movies. They bore me. I don't like to sit and be entertained.

I don't like visual apps. I don't like apps that want to do your thinking for you. I prefer stuff that looks like this forum with a proper menu. You can't stop parts of Ovi like you can PC Suite. If you don't want a module to run, then rename the exe file. Can't do that with Ovi - they use dll.

Using PC suite to transfer something, and up pops a message in the systray about how I need to update to Ovi Suite.
I find this ridiculous. If I can block MS from pulling crap like this, who in hell is Nokia to do it? And I can't find the file to block it.
They also seem to edit offerings by your carrier. You are either contract, or prepaid.
The phone updates just tell you "we've improved your Facebook experience" and junk like that - then will state "also minor improvements" and don't tell you what the minor improvements are.
I told them I was really unhappy with the software, will wait for a reply, then delete account at Nokia.
I do need to check of other phone software. I've used BB and Samsung. I liked my Pearl Flip, but it doesn't have Styletap and half the other apps I'd want.
I really don't want an Iphone, nor windows. Nor Motorola - they used to charge for the software. Who's left and what's their software like?
I don't care about 3 or 4 G. The phone is unlocked and doesn't use TM band. I mostly use my own wifi and I want an unlocked phone with a pull out keyboard like the C6.
The phone will also have to run Skype and Styletap also. I have them on the C6 and my wifi. Also use a memory card, but don't most these days?

If you look on the Nokia fora, there are quite a few complaints in the same vein, so I'm not the only one.

I sold my iPhone 4 and bought my N8.. I also have a Samsung Galaxy S that sits on the shelf collecting dust..

While Symbian^3 is in serious need of some fixing/apps, the hardware is insane. Super reliable, amazing camera and the audio quality has been second to none for me. These things are way more important to me than a fancy OS that has cool animations. About 80% of the apps that I need are on my N8, for the other 20% my BlackBerry 9800 (work phone) handles them well (DI.FM, TripIt, Decent Google Reader app and Exchange support obviously). Also, having an awesome maps app like OVI (I think it's better than Google maps) is key. I travel a lot to the US from Canada and having Offline maps is a saviour for me to save on roaming charges.

I do agree the phone is awesome. Except for the software included.
I see the N900 dropping in price. I would like that as it will run Garnet - the old Palm OS natively.
I don't use music player, (CD player can use USB for mp3) Ovi Maps (have a Garmin which I prefer) . I do use the camera, but will take the card out and read directly into Photoshop or Lightroom and fix files from there. I am missing my Palm stuff. I did get Astromist to run via Styletap. I don't do social networking on phone. Do text, phone calls, look up stuff online but that's it. Also run Skype via my own wifi.
I really think that Nokia could put out a lite version of the software if they wanted to. Like just the phone browser. I can find other file managers. If it wasn't for the software, I'd recommend Nokia to anyone. But with that junk, I won't.

If all you want to do is browse files in the phone, wouldn't Windows Explorer do the job? First thing I did with Ovi Suite was to disable automatic program start and automatic sync. My N8 appears in explorer when connected to the computer.

I start Ovi Suite only when I need it. If I'm working and get a text message, I use Ovi Suite to reply. Much quicker than reaching for the phone.

Something disabled the phone browser. I'm going to try using the Ovi uninstaller, and uninstall PC suite, and start over.
I downloaded all the software, including Ovi 3, will get it working, and delete Ovi account. MS annoyed me with the slogan "where do you want to go?" and "live your life with Ovi" is just as offensive. I'll live my life my own way, thank you. And I'll keep personal info like contacts off line.
Except for Styletap, I'd love to cross the BB OS with this phone. I use it more as a PDA anyway. Styletap runs Palm. My ideal would be apps for all my nature guides on the phone, and Astromist for Symbian. I see the phone as a reference tool.
