Changing from standard to Smart Phone-Don't want data plan

Love the forum. A lot of info!! Hopefully someone can help me out.

Here's what I'm trying to accomplish.

I'm about to receive a basic phone from work for free. (AT&T / Nokia 6650) I have not received it--but will probably early next week. Work will pick up the cost of this phone and the monthly charge. My work does not allow Blackberry's or Smart phone simply because they do not want to pick up the extra costs of the data plans.

What I plan on doing is purchasing an unlocked Nokia E71 and bring my SIM over from the 6650. What I would simply like to do is use my E71 as, well, like a PDA. I cannot have a data plan on this account

Is this crazy talk or possible? From what I'm reading it does appear possible-but I'm a newbie.

If you want to use the Nokia E71 as just a PDA, you do not have to put a SIM card in it. It has nothing to do with your employer. Usually when an employer provides a phone and pays the bill, they control how the phone is used. They have the online access to manage the account and can see whom you call. Do not mix personal and business use of the company phone. If you want to use the Nokia E71 as a phone, get your own account.
