I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX V6 with only 22000 miles on it. (Yes I know it's astoundingly little - I don't drive very much). For the past 10 years, it's been sitting idle, for the most part, outside in New Jersey or Chicago. How necessary is it for the timing belt and water pump to be replaced? I'm concerned more about wear and tear caused in temperature extremes over time rather than mileage.
I only plan on putting another 4000 miles or so on the car in the next six months (before it sits idle again) so I don't want to pay for unnecessary maintenance repairs if I don't have to. Basically what's the risk of the timing belt breaking while driving and causing more expensive engine damage within the next six months?
