Change oil: My car - toyota corolla 2001 - ís used very limitedly. It takes over...

...1 year to go 3,000 miles? Now, how often I should change oil for this vehicle? Waiting over one year to reach 3,000 miles? Or change it every 3 months as recommended, when the mileage is only les than 1000 miles? Is that wasted money and un-needed hassle? thank you.
 
Twice a year.

Once before winter and once before summer.

Your problem is going to be moisture accumulation in the crankcase.

That leads to acid formation and severe damage to toleranced parts.
