Certain odors take my breath

I can't find anything on this so I hope someone can help me. I have allergies (over 20 years now) (mold, dust dogs, cats and environmental) I also have a cough which has been diagnosed as a PND cough and not asthmatic. One side of my nose is always blocked and it alternates. Lately (last two months) I've noticed that certain odors completely block my nose which makes me have to breathe through my mouth so I feel like I can't breathe at all and I almost hyperventilate. It's actually very scary. The first time I noticed this was in my car and always at the same spot on the way home from work. Never during the day at work, only in the car stopped at this particular light at the exact same spot. Then one night two months ago I was cutting up a red pepper and the smell was very strong and it took my breath. My nose completely closed up.f I felt I couldn't breathe at all. I threw it out and a few mins later I felt okay. I also had it recently in a butcher store standing near a freezer, the air felt extremely cold and my nose completely closed and I had to run out the store. I was fine after a about 5 mins. The only places I seem to get this is in my car occasionally and driving through the country on a humid day if I smell freshly cut hay. The only time I've had it happen at home was that one time with the red pepper. It's really making me nervous. Doe anyone else have this? The blocked nose thing I've always had but not to the point where certain smells seem to literally take my breath.

Just avoidance or an antihistamine daily. I can't get anywhere never cigar or pipe smoke or I'll throw up. This is not uncommon.....

Thank you Titchou. So you're saying you have the same problem where you literally can't breathe?

try drinking orange juice - it's a natural antihistimine. My nose was always blocked - swollen.
