Censor Boards give 12A to Ep.3

The BBFC has passed Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith an 12A rating uncut.
Reason for its rating was of its moderate fantasy violence and scary scenes.

Now why didn't they release Ep.2 as a 12A uncut, instead of a PG cut version?

As I understand it, the BBFC simply reviews the films they're given and come up, after a fashion, with a certificate they feel is appropriate to what they've been presented with. If the director isn't happy with the certificate, i.e. it's too high for their targeted audience, the BBFC advise them on what they can do to obtain a lower certificate, so it's more the case that Lucas himself was happy to cut Ep.2 in order to get a PG, not the BBFC. With Ep.3, presumably he'd much rather keep it uncut, even at the expense of a higher rating. Plus, he knows that anyone that only got into Star Wars from Ep.1 is probably 12 or over now anyway, so a 12 rating probably won't harm the box office by excluding any fans.
