Cell phone as text editor?

Hello. Thanks for having this forum! I'm pretty much totally lost, so i'm just going to ask my question here:

I need two devices. The first is just a cell phone. Just needs to place an receive calls. Nothing fancy as a phone, don't need text messaging or games or any such. The other device is just anything with which i can write text files and either copy them to my linux box at home or email them to myself.

So, recently i was told i may be able to have both these things in a single device--like a PDA....

So i guess what i'm looking for:

Drop-dead requirements:Makes/takes callsCan be used with a bluetooth keyboardHas some kind of basic bare-bones text editor (preferably not a word processor like MS-Word)Can save text files and then transfer them to a machine running linux using some kind of simple file transfer protocol over usb or bluetooth.
Nice to have:I hear you can get cameras and mp3 players. Those would be cool.
Not important:MS Windows compatibility, office apps, text messaging, web browsing or any other data transfer/internet access.
Does such a device exist?

My girlfriend has sprint, so i guess we might be able to get a family account, which would be nice, but not required. We are moving to Albuquerque soon and i have the impression that only Verizon and sprint have decent coverage in NM. True? And i hear verizon cripples their phones, so i'm leaning toward sprint.

Sorry for the long post. Any thoughts or advice would be very much appreciated,
