My friends are having a debate and we need to see who is right and who's a loser...
We know the Catholic Church was formed after Christianity came about. But how long after? Was it pretty soon after or many centuries?

The Roman Catholic Church was founded by St. Peter.
The Orthodox Church of Alexandria was founded by St. Mark.
The Russian Orthodox Church was founded by St. Andrew.
The Armenian Orthodox Apostolic Church was founded by St. Bartholomew and St. Jude Thaddeus.
The Orthodox Syrian Church of India was founded by St. Thomas.
The Orthodox Church of Jerusalem was founded by St. James the Just.

Protestantism (with their doctrines of Bible Alone, Faith Alone, Once Saved Always Saved, ect.) was founded 1500+ years AFTER the founding of Christianity by Martin Luther, John Calvin, etc.)

It was founded at the same time that Christianity was founded. When Christianity first started the only "denomination" of Christians was the Catholic Church. It was founded by Jesus and it is in the Gospels. "Thou are Peter and upon this rock I shall build my Church."

Nonsense. The Catholic Church IS the original Christian Church, the only Church founded by Jesus Christ, the only Church approved by Him, and the only Church that existed for the first 1000+ years of Christianity. That isn't opinion. It is history. The Catholic Church is also the only fully Christian Church, all others having rejected many of the beliefs and practices of original Christianity. The earliest written record of The Holy Catholic Church by that name is in the writings of Ignatius, Catholic bishop of Antioch, in 108 AD. Ignatius was catechized and ordained by the apostle John. There are numerous historical document about the Catholic Church and by the Catholic Church throughout the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and every other century to the present day.

It was over 300 years after Christ. Constantine, began to embrace the belief of Christianity, because he saw it as a way to bring about Christians to fight in the name of faith for his cause against Muslims. So he told them he saw a sight, a cross and God's voice who told him by this sign you shell conquer. And goes the legend of the crucifix. etc... and the other traditions began by what be the new founded Catholic church. Constantine used them, and then so did the those who would lead the church.

You have to also be aware that Christianity also spread else where before the catholic church was formed. Other churches (places of gathering not denominations) where build before the catholic church , although most didn't survive as long. Partly do also because of Constantine first saw them as a threat, although later used them to his advantage against the Muslims.
Second reason the Catholic church after being formed made alliance with the kingdoms in exchange for protection. The catholics church blessed their kingdoms, and gave kings the appearance of legitimacy with God. Just as King David, was blessed by God. Taking advantage of the gullibility and ignorance of early men. It seems men hasn't change much their either. The church then began target all other churches and individuals, who did not give up their sovereignty to the catholic church and prosecuted them as with charges of being heretic, satanist etc... in order for the Catholic church to maintain a monopoly. Along with the support of allied kingdoms and the catholic church own military. the catholic church was unstable.

Jesus left no church, only the covenant of men with God. That is all he left.

After the Apostasy - meaning all the apostles were killed, the Roman Catholics came in later with their false teachings. After the apostles were gone, there was no one left to preach the truth. All was wiped out. That's where the last messenger comes in. He will be sent to teach the truth one final time.

Soon after. Jesus chose Peter to be the head of it while He was still on earth.

The Catholic Church was formed when Christ Chose St. Peter as His Rock(St. Matthew chapter 16).

If you ever decide to learn about the Papacy, you will learn that it can be traced ALL the way to back St. Peter.

The Catholic Church was formed immediately.

It doesn't matter how long the Roman Catholic Church rose up after Paul or Constantine. This is what matters:

- Do they read the Bible?
~ If they do, then who do they do this:

- Pray to Mary.
- Have a mediatrix.
- Have statues?
- Have Jesus on a cross? (HE IS RISEN!)
- Baptize babies? - Baptism is a sign of repentance of sins. However, babies do not sin, then why do they get baptized.

No, the Catholic Church is the original church that came directly from Jesus and His apostles. No other option existed until the eleventh century when the Eastern Orthodox Church broke with Rome.

The Catholic Church was formed at Pentecost as the Bible states. There was no other Church calling itself Christian for 1500 years. This can be proven historically, Biblically and Patristically.

St. Ignatius coined the word "Catholic" as those who gather around the bishop in about the year 107 in describing the Church of the apostles. He was a disciple of both St. Peter and St. John. He was also the third bishop of Antioch where the term Christian was also first used to describe the Church.

Jesus founded an enduring Church based on the foundation stones of the disciples who continued and built on that foundation through apostolic succession. Jesus promised humanity that the gates of hell will not prevail against this Church and that it is truly the "pillar and foundation of the truth". There is no evidence of any later date for the formation of the Church from Pentecost. If there had been an apostasy as one answerer said this would mean that Jesus was a liar and an incompetent in not being able to fulfill His promise of an enduring Church with the fullness of truth. He was not and never left the Church without leadership! God bless!

In Christ

The Catholic Church is the very heart of Christianity. Jesus established one church in 33AD and that was the Catholic Church. He gave it to Peter to lead

Jesus founded it...

Lol @ Catholicism being founded 300 years after... Protestantism was founded 1500 years after the founding of Christianity.
