I have a 12 year old neutered male cat (he has actually had a surgery to give him a "female" opening) that has recently stopped eating. He has lost some weight in the last week and a half week maybe two weeks. Of course I am worried about kidney failure or something more serious. He was eating dry food up until last Friday and then stopped and would only eat canned food. Now he has stopped doing that. He has real bad breath, meaning the smell of pus in his mouth, red gums, yellow/brownish spots on the teeth I can see, he is pawing at his teeth, and showing some discomfort when he did eat. I force fed him some food and as soon as it was down him, he started pawing at the side I stuck the food in. Could it be just his teeth are bugging him and that's why he doesn't want to eat? Or is it possible he has a lack of appetite cause he has a tooth infection and it's making food taste bad to him? Don't no one say take him to the vet, because he is going in less than 12 hours. I just need something to take my mind of the worrying. I can't stand the thought of losing him.
Yes I am sure he is 12 years old. My cat gave birth to him, so I know his actual birth date. His mother died what will be 2 years from this Wed at 15 and his grandmother two months ago at 17, so I know he has some pretty decent genes in him to last some more years. His brother is also a year and 2 days older than him and is healthy. I am not sure of his urine color cause we have 2 other cats. He drinks normally, he tends to like his water with ice in it or out of my cup =/.I tried tuna tonight and no take on it. He has a vet appointment tomorrow (hence the less than 12 hour thing I put).Cat's are also good at hiding illness from their owners. As far as the sex change goes, he had crystals in his bladder so they gave him a bigger opening to urinate.
