I have an 11 year old medium haired orange tabby. This spring I noticed that she was licking her nose, then tilting her head to the side and crying - only occasionally. I thought that she might be getting a cold, but there was no discharge from her nose and then she stopped doing it.
Over the last month-6 weeks I've noticed that she started doing it again and in the last couple of weeks it's been more frequent. She does it after licking her nose, and when she first starts eating or drinking. It seems if she drinks, tilts her head, cries - then comes back to the water a little later, it's better. Same with food. She is acting normally otherwise. Her teeth and gums look good. Her appetite has decreased and she favors soft food. We had a very hot spell this month and when it's hot she doesn't eat much. Between the heat and this head tilting her appetite has decreased significantly. She's naturally chunky (usually weighs about 12 lbs) but has probably lost about a pound over the summer. No changes in activity level or sleeping. No coughing or sneezing.
Don't know if stress might be a factor. I own a 2 room b&b and in the last 8 months it's gotten very busy. She enjoys people but don't know if the constant inflow/outflow is contributing.
Taking her to the vet this week but wanted to see if anyone out there had any thoughts. Thanks so much!
