Cat amputated, can he walk again?

I found a cat with her left hind leg broken, the bone punctured out and had an infection. The vet said it need to be amputated so it was done. The thing is, the right leg that was fine before the amputation, now can't seem to support her anymore. It's constantly stretched and all she does is lying there. Is it possible the amputation didn't perform well and affected the other leg?
It's been 25 days since her surgery, i asked the vet about it but he told me to give him months to start walking again. I'm not really sure with what he said as the leg is being so straight and rather stiff to bend, i fear it won't be usable anymore.
She's currently one legged.
4 limbs, 1 amputated, 1 twisted and no longer useable, 1 that was perfectly healthy but unuseable after amputation and 1 front limb that's still supporting her now..I fear that it'll be hard for her to live on one leg...
