Casino Royale, Ocean's Eleven, King Kong round off the top 3 remake's ever....

Certainly not gonna argue with King Kong at least, but surely Scarface should be amongst that top list and even Rob Zombie's Halloween? Doesn't Titanic count as a remake as well?

Not sure of what technically is classed a remake here but Batman (1989) should be as well as Batman Begins... Where are these?

Just baffled by Casino Royale and Ocean's Eleven considering other films that haven't been mentioned.

I wouldn't really class Casino Royale as a remake, the original with Peter Sellers was more of a spoof as the producer couldn't get EON Productions to make Casino Royale, which he owned the rights to. :)

Really? I'd admit it didn't have the same suspense as the original, but today it's hard to re-create that wonderful tension that low budget, no effects old school movies had.

But I loved the back story to Michael Myers in Zombie's, even though him deciding to no speak for 15 years made virtually no sense to me, putting a face and history to the monster really added to the franchise.

The back story totally missed the point of the original Halloween creation... the remake is definitely not up there with the best remakes, with Gerry on that, terrible movie. Zombie's own sequel to his remake looks slightly better from everything I've seen about it.

I don't see Casino Royale, or Batman Begins as remakes.

King Kong, I prefered the original and the second remake was nothing special in my eyes.

The only remake that comes to my mind that I find superior to the original is The Hills Have Eyes, Craven's original was one big bore, plus the remake was incredibly well shot, gorgeous to look at all the way through.

Can't comment about Casino Royale as I've never seen it/them but there are a couple of remakes I quite like, John Carpenter's The Thing and the 1970's Invasion of The Body Snatchers in particular and although not as good as the originals I also quite liked the following remakes; Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, Assault on Precinct 13 and dare I say it, The Texas Chainsaw Mascara :o

One of the best examples of a remake being superior to the original; The Fly.

Pretty sure there's a thread discussing just that point already on here. Definately a remake that improved on every aspect of the original.

The aforementioned 'Maltese Falcon' is surely better than the 1931 original.Ditto Ben-Hur and The Departed.
I found the Ammityville remake to be a stronger film than the original. The movie wasn't anything special though.

Halloween (2007) is a decent addition to the franchise. However, the movie is terribly inferior in comparison to the iconic original.

I feel The Fly (1986) is on par with the 50's original - but not greater.Ditto The Thing and Hills Have Eyes.

The 1980's Scarface is highly overrated IMO.Al Pacino puts in an iconic performance and there are a few memorable scenes, but not nearly enough to warrant a 3hr running time.It is very plodding.

These are some remakes I feel were worthy enough to warrant production.None are better than the original (IMO):
King Kong
3:10 To Yuma
Dawn of the Dead
Cape Fear
The Blob
Little Shop of Horrors
The Secret Garden
Miracle of 34th Street
Homeward Bound
Italian Job (I'll be crucified for that one :D)
Magnificent Seven (equal to original)
Fistfull of Dollars (equal to original)

I thought it was an OK film...but the only connection it had with the 1969 film is the title. I think if they had given it a different title, it might have been better received.

The remake of The Thomas Crown Affair was better than the original. IMO The Grudge was better than Juon - The Grudge as well. Agree with The Fly and The Thing. Not many more where the remakes have surpassed the original.

remakes of the planet of the apes and the italian job were just terrible..the first casino royale was good with peter sellers and so was daniel craig's..best to think of them as 2 different films..the same with the original time machine and the remake with guy pierce..good films if u think of them as 2 different films..as for ocean's eleven..both were great but wouldn't say one was better than the other

I wouldn't classify either as remakes. They are different interpretations of a character that had existed in comics for decades. They are not retelling exactly the same story as the comics, or the TV series or previous films. So I'd classify them as new takes on an old character rather than remakes.

If they are classified as remakes, that baffles me. Remakes of the 1960s series? Remakes of the 1940s movie serials? Remakes of the comics????

I also wouldn't classified Casino Royale as a remake. The 196os David Niven film used the Fleming title but had nothing to do with the story of the book, nor was it part of the Bond franchise.

I would say Casino Royale was a stand alone film before Quantum of Solace. Now I would say it is the first in a new series of Bond movies.

I thought the remake of Planet Of Apes was actually pretty good.I thought the ending was great.

I thought Assault on Precinct 13 was a pretty good remake.

Yes, I would totally agree with that.

And, as much as I enjoyed Peter Jackson's King Kong, the original was, and always will be, the best one for me.
