Casino Royale - Am I missing Something

I watched this on Sky Box Office HD last night, what an absolute pile of crap, if this is the future of the Bond franchise I for one won't be watching.

I dont understand why everyone raved about it, the story is disjointed, the stunts are over the top and unbelievable, the acting is poor.

Bond is Back, he can get lost again if this is the standard of film thats coming out.

Sorry for the whinging, was really looking forward to seeing this film and was hugely dissapointed

I don't do the Cinema, hate the places.

I did watch it on a 42" Plasma in HD if that helps and most action films look superb.

I appreciate it's just my opinion and a lot of people liked it, but given all the rave reviews I was expecting a lot more. I just found it very slow and even started to fast forward it towarRAB the end just to get it over with.

I thought it was great - stripping away some of the baggage and getting back to the excitement of the story. Much closer to Fleming's books than most of the other films have been in recent years. Craig was great. Having said that, I thought Brosnan was excellent too, but he was sometimes let down by the scripts and gadgets - the invisible car was a low point!

No, you are right, apart from the start sequence and the animation card opener credits, it was pants.

The fall of the house into the Venice canal was hilarious, as somebody mentioned in the cinema, 'I fell out of a gondola, and I was able to stand up in the water'.

Have to say I agree with you having just seen it for the first time. It was great to see the film move back towarRAB proper Bond by cutting down the gimmick gadgetry and bringing back the more serious tone of Fleming's books and the early films. Sadly they seemed to overlook the actual story. Basically it was a couple of really long action sequences with a game of carRAB in the interval.

If Bond is going to be an action movie then I'd rather have the Brosnan style light hearted gadget packed load of old tosh, but good fun with it. This film was just plain insipid, with next to nothing to recommend it.

some people didn't like it
a lot more DID like it

all personal preferences IMO

but what WERE you expecting ..... MR BOND!!!!
:D

personally, i haven't been OBSESSED with a film for years, but this is one of them!!!

Yeah thats right. If they had gone down the same route as the previous 3 then im sure the 007 franchise would of died out before too long. The same was happening to Batman too until Batman Begins came along.
Im glad Casino Royale brought new life into the franchise.

I didn't like it at all it just went on and on and on and there was too much of this "ooh mr bond we're going to dick around for a while then you'll get in my pants" back and forthing between him and the wh*re.

And that torture scene was like something from a porno, with him all oiled up and the bad guy all perverted.

I still think at the end instead of hugging the corpse he should've been punching it

Nothing wrong with that - although surely you'd be in company with quality critics there? ;) Nothing wrong with that either, except that your assertion that it is "awful" is demonstrably incorrect. There's probably an equation with which to do it and everything. It wasn't very logical, was it? Not that I've seen RB, but it made me smirk despite myself. Interestingly, I've heard good stuff about RB - it had mostly strong reviews. Which, oddly, takes us right back to the beginning of the post. How neat and tidy.

Now the pressing question is: Who'd win in a fight between Craig's knuckle-dragging Bond, and Stallone's middle-aged-spread Balboa? Enquiring minRAB need to settle this score. I smell crossover gold.

Since Stallone has had his *ahem* 'medication' taken away at the Aussie check-in, it would be a difficult one to predict. Still, it would be difficult to bring Bond down with a kick to the groin after his chair torture.
