cars that can keep up with ford fiesta zetec s ?

my mates keep saying that my dads car is rubbish when its a vw polo 1.6 classic sallooon i want somethink in the same insurance group or a little bit bigger any ideas what can keep up with this and is reliable im looking on the german and japanese cars thanks no stupid answers i aint a street racer i drive for my own pleasure
