Cars and Masculinity?

Hi there,
I'm looking to cars and masculinity, particularly within film as I'm studying for a Media BA.

I was just interesting to know your thoughts (if your male or female). Do you see a connection between cars and masculinity in films (if so, what films), what does this make you feel? Also, the idea of the road itself being the place for a journey... is this something male, or do females like to do such as going for a drive?

Many thanks,
Nick

Films are a poor reflection of real life. The producers always say they are portraying real life, but it is only a pretend version. The cars used are made to look 'different'. I don't think it matters whether the driver is male or female, they never drive something mundane. It can be a so called 'supercar', Ferrari, Mustang etc, a 4X4, such as a Hummer, or a beaten up old banger. The important thing is that the car is driven irresponsibly. I'm probably being boring, but to speed around a city, driving others of the road and wrecking things is nothing to do with good driving. It's all down to image. I'm bored with this already. How on earth can you bear doing a media BA in this? Once saw a programme on TV about employing graduates. The MD of a big multinational said if he saw the applicants degree was in Media Studies it went straight in the bin!
