Carry on London

I hear a new carry on film has been filmed over the summer, and stars Shane Richie and Vinnie Jones. www.carryonlondonfilm.com
OMG, is that the best they can come up with? The originals had a great cast. It sure won't be the same without them. I don't know why they're bothering, I wish they would leave this franchise alone.

to my knowledge only around half a dozen are still alive, and according to IMDB Peter Rogers is 92, surely he still isnt involved with it

I love to know who thinks Shane Ritchie is a good actor/comedian. Jones can play a comedy role, if he's quiet. This film will be an abomination, the fact that they can even use the 'Carry On' name is an insult to the previous films and actually talented comedy actors of the day.

What do you mean a 'private film'? Vinnie Jones' last film was XMen3, hardly 'private', it grossed millions of dollars!

The original Carry On movies were no great shakes to be honest, for the most part anyway.

The later ones were just poor smut-fests, but there's a lot to commend some of the earlier ones, Screaming, Spying, Constable, Follow That Camel etc, and as for Cleo - "Infamy, infamy, they've all got it infamy" - comedy gold.

Yes, the early ones had good things in them. Barbra WinRABor's arrival signalled the downturn I think. And when even SHE was saying no there was no hope for the series!

In fact, good as the line is, it actually pre-dates Carry On Cleo by about 10 years as it appeared in a similar spoof sketch in the radio show "Take it From Here". It was written by Frank Muir & Denis Norden who allowed the line to be used but i am sure later regretted it as they never get the acknowledgement they deserve for it.

Knowing what I do about this project (the dreadful list of 'stars' whose names have been associated with it, the fact that it seems to have been 'in production' for about five years now), when I saw this thread in 'TV Programmes', I instantly assumed it had gone from 'Film' to 'ITV1 Bank Holiday TV Movie' status, its sheer awfulness causing it to skip even the 'Straight to Garage-Forecourt DVD' step...

Yes I remember reading that in Frank Muir's autobiography. I suppose if it was only the one line that they contributed getting a writer's credit would be a bit much, then again it must have been galling that Talbot Rothwell enRAB up getting the credit for one of the most famous lines in british film comedy

Anyway, the site content is from earlier this year and mentions filming over the summer, I'd guess from the fact that this hasn't been in the press that this latest attempt to restart the franchise has foundered as so many movies do before so much as a frame or pixel has been shot.

It appears they're having a lot of casting problems as a few years ago danielle westbrook and 'barry' from eastenders pulled out. They should only do it if they can get the best cast of today. James Dreyfuss would be good. Would be good if they could get a few originals in it aswell like June Whitfield, Jim Dale, Barbara WinRABor etc. That might make it a little more barable.
