career in sports journalism?

I'm currently a first year law student with degrees in sociology and psychology from a highly regarded liberal arts college in the northeast. I've recently figured out that I most likely do not want to practice law and have decided that what I enjoy most in life is sports, specifically college football. What intrigued me about law school was the adage that lawyers are essentially writers since I have always enjoyed writing and consider myself a good writer. My question is if I want to somehow attain a career in which I write about college football, what avenues do I take? I never took any journalism classes in college since my school didn't offer them. Thoughts/suggestions?
