Car trouble (overheating, dead battery... details)?

So I've had trouble with a belt for the past couple months. It sort of "screams" when I start the car and drive off. Lately, it's been getting worse and will even start doing it if I've been out driving, just randomly. Anyway, today I was driving to class and I looked and noticed my battery light was on. Once I got off the interstate, I saw that the temperature was all the way up to Hot. Right as I noticed that, I also started noticing white smoke coming out from under my hood. I drove into a parking lot and I have to leave it there until tomorrow morning when I can get it towed. Does anyone know what this could be? my friend said he'd take a look at it. Also, is my car completely done for?
I actually brought the car in because of the screaming to a car mechanic place called Tuffy. They told me all that was wrong was the power steering belt. So I got that replaced and it never stopped screaming.

It doesn't sound like it.
What you probably ignored was a coolant leak, by this I mean that that belt squeal was trying too tell
you something?
I believe it was trying too tell you that coolant was saturating the belt, causing the
belt to slip.
So now you've either broken the belt or the water pump may have seized: Which
will destroy the belt.
Once you get this taken care of the car should be back to normal.

If you didn't drive it far while it was overheating you may not have hurt it that much. If your belt has been left for that long, you may have lost it all together. When a belt starts screaming like that it means that it is either glazed over or slipping bad (loose). I would say check the belt first and see if it is even there any longer. You will know if you hurt the motor because it will keep overheating even after you find the problem.
