Car tire on my Road King

I just called my insurance company (State Farm), not my agent, and was told that as long as the tires on the bike are DOT approved and have at least the minimum tread depth (no slick tires), they can't deny a claim.

I'm interested in knowing where you are getting your facts Frenchbiker.
When you say car tires have softer compound? That depends on the tire you buy. You can buy performance tires with load and compound ratings much different than all season or long mileage rated tires. Same with MC tires. The guy's that race on the road courses use a softer compound that sticks in the curves. Their tires don't last long. The sidewalls on a ct are much different than mc tire sidewalls. Most car tires are 2 ply sidewall rating and 4 ply tread. I think most hwy mc tires are 4 ply sidewall rated. I know they are designed for different types of use. My concern is the radial and axial pressures and how different the two are. Crotch rocket bikes use different tires than touring bikes. I'm interested in knowing all the facts before I commit to a ct. I don't have but two tires supporting me, I want the best!

Ive been riding a CT on my VTX for the last 2 years, just changed it last month, went thru 3 sets of MT in a year, so I did a ton of research and decieded to make the swap. I ran a Metz 130/70/18 up front and a 205/60/16 Bridgestone G019, got 41K out of that one, just put on a Goodyear Triple Tread in the same size and an E3 up front. All I have to say is WOW! The round profile of the TT combined with the E3 up front rides as good if not better than a MT.

Okay, I'm down with Lemon Pledge to wax the bike, but I draw the line at car tires. They're too creepy looking to my eyes, but I'm old so what do I know...

Nope....no problem here, It is DOT rated.....Guy pulled out in front of me laid the bike down....didnt even bat an eye on paying...only thing the adjuster asked was how it handled!

Thanks for your services!! I bet it would last forever, I would think it may take more effort in corners given the teeter point is more out at the edge, as such I`ve notice as my tire gets flatter with more mile.

i have been wanting to go this direction to the darkside since i bought my bike but my concernhas been the amount of gap between the belt and the tire. is there a problem. to give you a little bit of history i owned a 2003 venture and i had a cat tire on the back and loved it , it was awesome. as to the reason i had to buy a new bike is because i totaled my venture last year and the insurance company did not say a word about a car tire on the back

Engineers design each for the specific application, I pray the shortcomings of a car tire fitted to a motorcycle dont manifest themselves out on the open road. ride safe
