...recently while driving along? the road at 50/60 mph the car has stopped dead instantly. It did not conk out slowly. It went from 50 to zeoo instantly as if you had hit a stone wall. On both occasoins when I turned the key it started again and drove on fine, Any ideas what is causing this to happen. Thanks, Charlie

He he he, You must have that Joker car, Herbie Lov Bug. Isn't it fun and scary at the same time when it does that on you? LOL!!! Well you should take it to a Toyota dealer and have them look over it.

Get this car straight around to the dealer and complain in writing, keep a copy of the letter if this continues to happen after they have fixed the fault you may be in a position to reject it.

I had a similar problem some years ago and it was what you would least expect. Apparently there is a breather hole on each petrol or oil tank on the car and my had become blocked. The car will use petrol until it forms a vacuum then stop, after stopping the air in the tank recovers and away you go again. The hole is quite often on the petrol or oil cap. Just a chance it may help.

If it's brand new get it back to the dealer right away, Sounds electrical/electronic.

Check the dipstick, if it is white the your head gasket may have gone. Expencive

This is a ECU problem. It might need to be replaced. Take it back to the main dealer. Hopefully they will find a fault code and be able to sort this out quickly. The Peugeot 206 had this same problem a few years ago. The only way to cure it was to replace the ECU.
