Head Unit is a Pioneer DEH-1900MP
I had it installed 2 years ago by Circuit City.
I mainly use it to play my iPod. The way I go is have the iPod at full volume and then just have the stereo at maybe 13-15 (sound normal to my ears). And I never hear any popping or distortion, the speakers all sound healthy.
Lately, I noticed that the stereo would stop making sounds sometimes when playing. And the sound only comes back after I turn the HU off and then back on. Then it will play normally.
Today, it did it a lot more than usual (after driving for about 30 minutes), so what I did was put my iPod at 3/4 volume, and bosted my HU to about 23-25 (sounds the same as when I had iPod at full and HU at 13-15). After doing this the stereo didn't cut out anymore, but I only drove for a few more minutes, so I won't know if it'll do it again on a longer drive.
I have another car that has an amplifier and it too cuts out, but it comes back after 3 seconds (bad wiring on a speaker). But my Pioneer doesn't do this, it stays silent till I turn it off and on. What would cause the sound to go out and stay out till I cycle the power on the HU?
Thanks.
Oh by the way, vehicle is a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban. With stock speakers.
