Car stereo amps, speakers and channels?

I want to set up a car speaker system, I wanted to have 3 types of speakers (low mid & high) I assume this means I need to have an amp with 3 channels? Am I right? Will I be able to independently adjust the volume and frequency range of each channel?

Also Do I need a separate class D mono-amp for my sub woofer/s? I am so confused help please :)
