(CNN) -- A car lost control and slammed into the pits at a racetrack in California on Saturday evening, killing two spectators, authorities told CNN affiliate KXTV.
The crash took place at Marysville Raceway Park during the California Sprint Car Civil War Series.
The Yuba County Sheriff's Office told the affiliate that one of the victims was age 68 and the other was 14.
Saturday's race was the opener to a series with 14 events at six venues, according to the series' website.
Racing announcer Steven Blakesley tweeted from the scene, saying the car exited the pit ramp at full speed and struck several bystanders, but did not enter the stands.
"(T)he drivers have got together and agreed to donate all the back gate money to the families," Blakesley tweeted.
