My 2006 Scion tC has just started to "skip" a little when I release the gas pedal after accelerating. This skipping is pretty predictable. When I press the gas, everything seems normal, and when I release, the car will make three skips or jumps, and then drive normal again. I have also noticed that when in idle, it will shake for a few seconds in predictable intervals.. It sits smoothly for 5 seconds, then will shake a bit for a couple of seconds, and then sit smoothly for 5 seconds and so on.
I have a cracked air intake box, and just ordered a new intake online so I'm waiting for that to arrive in the mail. However, the intake box has been cracked for quite a while, and I haven't experienced anything other than lower gas mileage and a check engine light as a result.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I just recently had the car shipped from Southern California to DC. In other words, today was the first time I ever drove the car in sub freezing temperatures. Today is the first time I notice this skipping, shaking and jumping, and today it has been around 20 degrees here in DC. Could there be a connection?
My best guess is I might want to change the oil? It's running on 10w30, and the last oil change I had was in California.
P.S. The spark plugs on the car were replaced about 3 months ago.
