2004 saturn ion, 67,000miles. Its a Manual Transmission and in any gear if i go higher than 3k rpms the engine seems very muffled and strained (sounds like its redlining basically) and as soon as i switch gears it feels normal again. I did push it to 4k rpms before and it sounded horrible so i got scared and stopped. overall gas mileage went down, it was never fast but lost alot of its peppiness. it started to happen 2 months ago. any idea whats wrong before i take it in??
ps: because of this i now switch gears around 2.5k rpm and it sucks trying to get up to speed especially when turning from a lot into into a road with cars averaging around 35-45mph
