My hubby has a 2001 pontiac aztec with about 80,000 miles on it. It has been nothing but trouble. The air conditioner doesn't work and it will be about $800.0 to fix it. The transmission cost us 2500.00 to fix and now its overheating and he suspects it the head gasket. Help. We don't have a lot of money to buy another car but is it better to keep this one running or try to buy a "beater car". (We just drive his car to work etc never out of town)

Going to the auto shop will cost you an arm and a leg, so my advice to you is this... FIND A FRIEND WHO CAN WORK ON CARS!! I have always done my own work on cars, and have kept them running up into the 300k mileage area. The AC might just need to be charged up. You can buy a bottle of compressed Freon from autozone for about $5-$15 and you can refill the compressor yourself. Also, Overheating can be caused my several things. Your best option is to buy the Haynes-Service Manual for the 2001 Pontiac Aztec. They are available from any autozone, etc... These books guide you step by step, with pictures, and show and explain exactly how to replace or fix anything on your car. They are great! Might have to get the manual, and start checking things in order to find what is causing the overheating. Process of Elimination. It could be something as simple as a temp sensor going bad. I hope this answer has helped you. There is only so much I can try to explain to you in this answer box. Good Luck, and FIND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS CARS!!! Good Luck!

It could be the intake is leaking antifreeze. They are know for that. Check the level of the antifreeze could be low, possible thermostat

1 cars usually break down from lack of care,,[unless it a lemon]
2 a rebuilt tranny costs 1200 to 1600...u got ripped
3 DON'T get headgasget done where the tranny was done...should cost 600-800 for 4 cyl and 1000 to 1500 for v 6
4 todays cars engines are made of aluminum..you cannot overheat them....oil and coolant must be kept clean and full...
5 before you do anything get a "leak down" and "compression" test.[about 100 dollars]..that will let you know about the condition of engine..
after putting 2500 into tranny its hard to say junk it...
6 AC bummer i paid over 1000 to repair,,actually replace my entire AC system...not cool.
when to cut loss...its not just money...we had a 97 saturn worth 5K and traded it for 3K just to get rid of the *%8$73^@$5 thing...it was worth 2K to be rid of it..
